DS1812+ Debian and OMV
Ramdisk recovery and Debian 13 / OpenMediaVault 8 rebuild tooling for the Synology DS1812+.
A record of recovering the DS1812+ boot chain, rebuilding a working ramdisk, and running Debian 13 with OpenMediaVault 8 on a separate OS mirror and storage array. Includes anonymized technical notes, configurable boot tooling, storage protection and hardware monitoring. The published images are historical templates requiring device-specific configuration.
What this work covers
The DS1812+ firmware's USB boot constraints, the EFI selector and ramdisk handoff, and the path to Debian 13 with OpenMediaVault 8. The rebuild keeps USB boot-only, uses a 32 GiB-per-disk OS RAID1, and separates storage into a RAID6 managed by OMV.
The source includes recovery-image builders, OS/storage separation tooling, OMV storage protection, SMART and temperature monitoring, and bay LED helpers. Historical notes explain failed approaches as well as the working boot chain.

Read the rebuild procedure and configuration notes. The rebuild is destructive: back up required data and review your disk inventory. Supply your own MAC address, array identities and SSH keys. The old diagnostic images are templates with unauthenticated recovery services, not production defaults.
Validation and status
The original lab system reached Debian 13, SSH and OMV. After anonymization, 100 Python tests, 37 PHP checks and packed handoff checks passed. The scrubbed boot payloads have not undergone a new NAS boot; see the validation record.
This is the initial source publication. There is no versioned binary release, SBOM-backed release bundle or universal installer advertised here.
